Carriage Hill Institutes Resident Council

Giving residents a voice in their care and residency is of utmost importance to us at Carriage Hill! To provide a forum for residents to discuss operational issues as a group to present to administration, we are instituting a Resident Council. The Resident Council will have authority to discuss operational issues that affect their daily lives as a resident such as meals and activities.
The Resident Council will be comprised of five members: a President and four members. For continuity, the President will serve a one year term, while members will serve a six-month term. Member selection, including the position of President, will be done by a random drawing of ballots submitted by the residents themselves (i.e. self-nomination). Selections will be made on June 15th for first term starting July 1st. Non-members may be permitted to join the monthly Resident Council Meeting by submitting a request to the President to be on the agenda. In addition to the Resident Council Meeting, the Resident Council will meet on a monthly basis with the Administrator and Director of Nursing.
We look forward to the implementation of the Resident Council now that our residence is at over 90% occupancy. Carriage Hill administration specifically delayed implementation until the residency was almost full in order to ensure broad representation of residents and sufficient adjustment time for our initial residents. Once implemented, the Resident Council will be a permanent representative forum for residents based on voluntary participation.
